SHOW YOUR LOVE OF COLLINGWOOD DOWNTOWN – WINNERS – WEEK ONE

First Place – Gabriele Photography, submitted by Bonnie
As an avid photographer, I'm not exaggerating when I say Gabriele Photography is the best photography store in Canada. To my mind, this local business exemplifies superb customer service in Collingwood. John Gabriele, the owner operator, is personable, genuine, and dedicated to helping his customers. John goes that extra mile every time. Under John's guidance, the staff at Gabriele Photography is knowledgeable and willing to spend the time necessary to meet customer needs. They go out of their way to explain and teach you how to use the products offered. It's as if every purchase come with a personal tutorial on how to use the item. Here's a concrete example of the firm's extraordinary customer care. Recently, I popped in thinking of purchasing a new compact camera because I was not happy with the photos from my small camera. One of the staff examined my camera. Instead of selling me a new camera, she took time with me and suggested some new settings to try. In addition, Gabriele Photography is innovative. The business continually offers new products and services. John and his staff know many of their customers by name. They are always welcoming when someone walks in the door. Gabriele Photography has it all: cameras, lenses, cases, an abundance of video equipment, frames, printing services, and fun gift items. I love the photographer's themed t-shirt and travel mug my husband gave to me for Christmas! When you think of all the photographic purchases available on line or in big box stores how can a small camera store in a small town survive? The answer is simple--superb customer service!

Second Place – Tesoro, submitted by Mariane
Our last visit there was at the beginning of Fall, the air was crisp and the sky was beautiful, so we chose to seat outside to enjoy the great weather before winter took. I began with my favorite appetizer: carpaccio. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, seasoned lightly with lemon, greens and parmesan thickly chopped. Super fresh and light, perfect for Summer. My husband ordered the Penne Arrabiatta, which comes with spicy Italian sausage tossed with hot peppers, spicy roma tomato sauce & extra virgin olive oil. The presentation was original and each bite was rich and filling. The toasted bread on the side (which yeah, I stole from his plate) were particularly good with a hint of olive oil. I went for the daily special, which was risotto with pork, adorned with peaches and green apples. It was a delightful combination of flavours! The risotto was light and not overwhelmingly sweet and mixed perfectly with the pork. It was a large portion, so I also enjoyed it on the next day ???? A friend of ours was there as well and he always orders the same thing: Chicken Parmagiano, a classic for sure. The home made sauce gives and extra “oomph” to the fettuccine and the chicken breading is always perfect. I was there again on another day with friends from work, but this time for lunch and I was very happy to see one of my favorite meals available in the lunch menu: crepe! Crepes have always had a special place in my heart as they remind me of Paris and are simply delicious every time! I was expecting a simple folded crepe, but to my surprise, it came in a little bowl, still bubbling from the oven. It was fantastic! I wish I could talk about dessert as well, but whenever we go to Tesoro, our bellies are full half way through the meal, so we never make it to dessert time, lol.
Whether you go for lunch or for dinner, in Summer or Winter, with friends or with your significant other, Tesoro will never let you down and remains my favorite in town!

Third Place – Minds Alive, submitted by Janice
In a world where big box stores and the internet have taken over the sale of toys, books and games, Minds Alive is a precious resource in Collingwood. This store offers a wonderful selection of children’s toys, both educational and not. They have a cozy little nook at the back of the store with a great selection of children, teen and young adult literature. And they have games! Without a doubt one of the best selections of games you can find short of Amazon.  My family are addicted to Settlers of Cattan and there are so many variations of the original game available here. Best of all is their customer service. They are knowledgeable, fast and friendly.
