Treat Yourself (Posted On: Monday, February 23, 2009)

There’s a new Spa in town in the heart of Thornbury. Upon entering the doors of Alitira Day Spa & Hair Salon (where does the word Alitira come from and what does it mean you ask? I had to ask too…Sinfulness in Greek it turns out), I was greeted by a warm and friendly smile from the receptionist, who already knew my name and the services I was to receive throughout my stay.

The entrance is very spacious, and allows you the opportunity to check out the boutique showcasing all of the products used in-house including Guinot Paris, Kenra, and Sparituals.

As I followed Judy through the hair salon, I noticed there were five stylist stations and a cozy inviting waiting area that was situated around a fireplace.

She then led me into the “Spa” where there are two private treatment rooms, a waiting area and a change room with a shower. I was then given a luscious red bath robe to change into as well as a key to a locker where all my personal belongings would be safe and sound for the duration of my visit. I was already starting to relax…something that can be a challenge for me.

While I sat in the “Solitude” room sipping on my raspberry mint fresh water, I went into deep thought, imagining what my treatments might possibly be like. A few minutes later Jessica, my esthetician for the afternoon, met me and gave me an overview of the services I would be receiving (thanks to a Valentine’s gift certificate from my husband). She also went through my health history form. Then she lead me up the mysterious yet heavenly staircase where I received an amazing hot stone massage that lasted 60 minutes, which I so deserved to have.

After returning to the main level, I was lead to the “Simply Devine” room, where I sat in the most sophisticated high back massaging pedicure chairs. While my feet were soaking in a colourful bubble bath, I noticed the décor the room had to offer. It was outlined with soft linens, stone fixtures and two glass top manicure tables with antique chairs. I am now the proud owner of two very happy feet.

After completing my spa services, I went back into the salon were Brenda was eagerly waiting to wash and blow dry my hair. After a brief consultation with her, she then put the finishing touches on what turned out to be a “Perfectly Sinful” afternoon.

Take the time to take care of yourself! It’s well worth it.
