The Keys to Collingwood Festival on Civic Holiday Weekend marks the return of the popular Street Pianos! Beautifully restored pianos will be installed on the streets of Collingwood's Historic Downtown for all to enjoy. As we celebrate our country's 150 birthday this year, the pianos will feature iconic images from each of the provinces and territories which make up our great country.
More than 90 hours of performances have been booked to play on the ten street pianos, including prestigious performers from all over Ontario who have studied at Western University, Humber College, and Wilfrid Laurier. Performances start Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continue Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Many performers will pay tribute to the great music of Canada and will feature music of all genres, including jazz, blues, rock, classical and gospel. As a special treat the weekend also features a special world renowned Jerry Lee Lewis tribute artist you do not want to miss!!
New this year is the Monster Ground Foot Piano, located beside Collingwood's Town Hall (under the clock tower). Come on downtown and let your dance moves create some musical tunes!
A special evening farmers' market - 'Market by Night'- will be another highlight of the launch weekend. Presented in addition to the regular morning market on Saturday, August 5th, this evening edition will run from 6 pm to 10 pm in the usual location in the municipal parking lot at the corner of Pine and Second streets. Patrons will have the opportunity to buy dinner, shop your favourite market vendor, and be entertained with performances by The Suitors and The Mike McCarthy Band. There will be balloon twisting and face painting by U-Pick Parties, children's crafts with Magic of Children in the Arts, and an extraordinary show put on by magician Sawyer Bullock.
The fun continues through the month as the pianos remain on the streets for your pleasure and enjoyment. The unexpected often happens when someone sits down at one of these wonderful musical instruments. For a complete line-up of performers, bios and piano locations, please click here.
