Tall Ships Return (Friday, August 03, 2012)

The Tall Ships Pathfinder and Playfair will be returning to the Port of Collingwood August 10th and 11th in what is quickly becoming an annual tradition. The ships from Toronto Brigantine Inc. will dock alongside the harbour promenade offering the public the opportunity to view the ships up close. Members of the ships’ crews will be onsite Friday from 12pm to 6pm and on Saturday from 11am to 5pm to speak about the ships and the Toronto Brigantine’s Youth Sail Training Program.

Toronto Brigantine is celebrating its 50th anniversary of tall ship sail training for youth and continues to sign up kids from all backgrounds and experiences to share a summer adventure. The youth, who can register for either a one week or two week program, learn to overcome seasickness, fear of heights and the challenges of living in close quarters all while sharing in the exhilaration of sailing.

Toronto Brigantine’s Summer Program is targeted to youth ages 13 to 18, who are ready for adventure and are looking for new friends, exciting challenges, and new skills while sailing the Great Lakes and Georgian Bay. Each vessel has the capacity for 18 teenaged trainees with a crew of teenaged officers, with only one adult on board, the Captain. The details of each course in the summer program are provided at the Toronto Brigantine website.

Be sure to include a visit to the waterfront promenade and the Pathfinder and Playfair in your plans August 10th and 11th.
