After two sold out years at the Side Launch Brewery, Collingwood Oktoberfest is moving downtown, to the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. "We're very excited to bring the event right downtown, and looking forward to transforming the Eddie Bush into a Bavarian Beer hall", said local businessman John Gabriele, who co-produces the event with Liam Willis.
The move was necessitated by growing demand for the event. "After the first year sold out, we doubled capacity at the Side Launch Brewery with a large outdoor tent, and still sold out pretty quickly. Everyone involved agreed that it was time for a bigger venue," said Willis.
"Last year's event was absolutely amazing, it felt like I walked through a portal into Munich, it had a fantastic atmosphere" said town councillor Bob Madigan, who along with Mayor Sandra Cooper, participated in the traditional Tapping of the Keg ceremony in 2016. "It's a real-deal event, it's got the whole package - great music, great food, and yes - it has great beer too," chuckled Councillor Madigan. "Moving (Collingwood Oktoberfest) to downtown is a fantastic opportunity to establish this as a marquee event in Collingwood. I look forward to seeing its continued growth."
A popular tradition starting in Munich, Germany over 200 years ago, Oktoberfest is a celebration of Bavarian culture, and has grown to become the largest public festival in the world, attracting over 6 million visitors annually. Collingwood Oktoberfest has made its make mark by showcasing award-winning craft breweries, as well as incorporating the traditional elements of Oktoberfest.
Collingwood Oktoberfest features live music, including traditional German Oompah, as well as local bands, a Supermarkt, where a selection of Collingwood restaurants will serve up their take on traditional German fare, and of course, beer. Collingwood's Side Launch Brewing Company won Canadian Brewery of the Year honours in 2016 and has been the presenting sponsors for Collingwood Oktoberfest every year. VP of Sales and Marketing Chuck Galea will curate the beer selections along with Side Launch Brew Master Michael Hancock. In past years Northwinds, Collingwood Brewery, Junction Craft Beer, and Redline Brewhouse have all been represented at the event. CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS
