Georgian Hills Vineyards are predicting a very good 2008 vintage following last year’s amazing 2007 vintage.

John Ardiel says “It’s been a challenging summer with higher than average rain in June and July, however, the past six weeks of balmy warm fall days has certainly made up for the delay in sugar development in our grapes.   Although we are harvesting 2 weeks later than last year we are seeing some really good flavours and ripeness and so we are hoping to declare it another “vintage” year here in the Georgian Bay region.

At Ardiel Acres where John Ardiel and his team are now in their second commercial vintage (5 acres of 5 year old vines) they are growing 7 different varieties of grapes and will harvest close to 12 tons of grapes this year. John’s team of Jamaican workers are seen here picking the red grape called Marechal Foch, which is proving to be a very successful grape to grow in this region and capable of making a very enjoyable mid weight red wine with lots of raspberry and blackcurrant flavours.
