Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and the Rural Ontario Medical Program are very pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffery Matte and Dr. Christopher (Kit) Fairgrieve have been matched to McMaster’s Family Medicine Rural Stream Residency Program in Collingwood. Both Jeff and Kit will be spending the next two years in Collingwood and the surrounding area to complete their medical training.

Dr. Jeffrey Matte holds a B.Sc. in

Kinesiology from the University of Western and is an M.D. graduate from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay.  Jeff spent most of his life living in the north and is from the small town of New Liskard located in northern Ontario. He has a great passion for the outdoors and enjoys many sports including hockey, snowboarding, wakeboarding, snowmobiling and spending time at the cottage.

Jeff will be training under Dr’s Steve Langford and Dorothy Sunderland in Collingwood. “Jeff and Kit are not only going to help out our community by providing excellent service to our patients but will be great additions to our doctor’s hockey team” said Dr. Langford.

Dr. Kit Fairgrieve also has a keen interest in sports such as basketball and soccer. He was raised in the High Park area of Toronto. Kit studied at the University of Western Ontario in London for both his B.Sc. in Physiology and his MD. Kit explains that “Despite growing up in Toronto, I often came to Collingwood while visiting my grandparents in Clarksburg.  I decided to train here because of the excellent teaching and hands-on experience, and the beauty and recreational opportunities available in this wonderful community”. Kit will be training under Dr. Wells for his two year residency in the community.

“Welcome to the two new McMaster Rural Stream Residents. These two young physicians will be in the community for the next two years!  They join a long list of past residents which we are fortunate to have had stay in the community.  This will be an exciting and challenging two years and we wish the best to both of them,” says Dr. Peter Wells, ROMP’s Executive Director and Collingwood family physician.
