Photographs, paint and mixed media combine to create synergy with two new art exhibits at the Collingwood Public Library this May.

Local scenery comes alive with a collection of prints on canvas in “Coming Home” featuring photographer Erica Prinn-McCarthy.

The combination of historic and contemporary, rural and urban flavours in Collingwood and Georgian Bay appeals to Prinn-McCarthy’s appetite for diversity. Prinn-McCarthy captures moments in time and evokes strong emotion in her photographs reflecting her love of the area.

“People purchase my work because they desire to bring a piece of the outdoors they love into their homes. By capturing distinct images of Collingwood and Georgian Bay, my photographs are identifiable slices of the landscape – you cannot mistake them for somewhere else – and become keepsakes for those who cherish this area,” said Prinn-McCarthy.

“Coming Home” will hang in the Williams/Westcott Art Walk on the Library’s first floor.

Painters Lory MacDonald and Michelle Matthews come back to the Collingwood Public Library with “The Return” an exhibit showcasing their collaborative works of abstracted landscapes in mixed media. MacDonald and Matthews’ artwork celebrates colour and line together with bold brush strokes and subtle textures, revealing dynamic pieces that express creative flair.

“We collaborated together on each piece by starting individually, and then trading them back and forth, building layer upon layer of elements until completion,” said MacDonald. “It was an exciting project because we each have different artistic styles, so we combined various techniques and imagery. The final pieces reflect the energy of this collaboration.”

“The Return” will hang in the Bridge Gallery on the Library’s second floor.

“Coming Home” and “The Return” exhibit at the Collingwood Public Library between Monday, May 2, 2011 and Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

The public is invited to an opening reception for both exhibits on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the FreeSchools World Literacy Community Room, located on the Library’s first floor.

The Collingwood Public Library is committed to guiding our community in the pursuit of information, the wonder of lifelong learning, and the enrichment of social and cultural experiences. At the heart of the community, the Collingwood Public Library is an inclusive environment seeking universal accessibility.
