The total project cost of just over $4 million was funded by the Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation and the County of Simcoe. The County of Simcoe contributed with a commitment in funding that will cover almost half of the cost of the project by 2016, the remainder of the budget was funded by contributions from the community through donations to the G&M Hospital.
Perhaps most visible to patients and to the public are renovations that have been done to improve privacy in the Emergency Triage area and to centralize patient registration. These renovations were completed throughout the summer months.
Also occurring during the summer months were renovations to the Dialysis Unit. A new storage and equipment preparation area was created freeing up much needed space in the main room that houses the 6 Dialysis chairs.
As of mid-September, construction in the G&M Hospital’s Endoscopy Suite was completed. The opening of the Hospital’s new Endoscopy Unit means that endoscopy procedures (for example colonoscopies) will be performed in this new dedicated area rather than in the Hospital’s Operating Room. This will significantly improve patient flow and comfort.
Behind the scenes, our Sterile Processing Department also has a larger, newly
renovated, space to work within. This incredibly important support department contributes to the high quality of patient care and safety on a daily basis.
The Hospital’s Operating Rooms (OR) and Surgical Suite also benefited with the expansion of one of the Operating Rooms and the creation of a patient pre-operation holding area. A sterile core area (storage room) was also opened providing storage for orthopaedic surgery supplies.
“The General and Marine Hospital is so grateful that the funding for this project is coming from the County of Simcoe as well as from the General and Marine Hospital Foundation. With this generous investment we are able to make physical changes to our hospital that will continue to enhance our ability to provide high quality clinical services locally,” said Linda Davis, President and CEO of Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
“Chair of the Foundation Board, Robbie Ross, extends thanks to the community for their support, “We are so pleased to be able to share the excitement of this official opening with those who made it possible – our donors. Our community recognized the need at our Hospital and generously helped to meet it.”
