Sometimes, all a child needs to have fun is a cardboard box and a healthy imagination. That was certainly the case last summer for Laurie Copeland’s, then, two-year-old daughter Sadie, who spent weeks turning a box that had once housed a kitchen cabinet into a grand castle.
Inspired by Sadie’s inherent ability to have fun, Laurie decided to follow her own dream and open a children’s store CARDBOARD CASTLES, located in the charming village of Creemore.
“What I want to do is guide children back to the basics of play”, says Laurie. All of the clothing and toys here are meant to inspire the imagination.
You won’t find anything electronic at Cardboard Castles. Don’t expect any corporate labels either no Disney, no Dora. Instead, you’ll find a variety of interesting and creative odds and ends for kids, from custom-painted toy boxes, to ride-on die-cast fire trucks, Plasma Cars, puppets and unique kites to all kinds of clothing both whimsical and practical. Clothing sizes range from newborn infant to 6x with added specialty programs for youth and adults, who are all still kids at heart!
Located in a beautiful storefront on Creemore’s historic Mill Street, Cardboard Castles is a welcome addition to a downtown already suited to destination shopping. In summer months, crowds of shoppers visit the Farmers’ Market before strolling among the village’s galleries, cafes and specialty shops. All year round, Creemore is known for its friendly atmosphere and picturesque setting.
