Where there was once a single local brewery - Creemore Springs, in recent years four new breweries (Collingwood, Northwinds, Side Launch and Wasaga Beach Brewing Co.) have sprung up in the Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview "triangle", providing yet another compelling reason for tourists to visit Simcoe County.
And now the breweries have banded together with the new Beer Around the Bay initiative that celebrates not just Southern Georgian Bay's growing number of great breweries and beer, but also showcasing Simcoe County as one of Ontario's fastest growing tourism destinations.
Beer Around the Bay is a new Simcoe County marketing initiative that showcases five local breweries in partnership with Clearview Township, the Town of Collingwood and the Town of Wasaga Beach. Shown here are from left to right: Paul Swindall, Creemore Springs Brewery head brewer, Pete Wilkins, Wasaga Beach Brewing Company partner, Chris Freeman, The Collingwood Brewery head brewer, Bryan Egan, Northwinds Brewery head brewer and Michael Hancock, Side Launch Brewing Company head brewer.
"With Beer Around the Bay, the five local breweries are organizing and taking part in some fabulous beer-related events and activities over the course of the summer," observes Beer Around the Bay spokesperson Martin Rydlo. "We already have a great line up of events that will appeal to microbrewery enthusiasts throughout Ontario as well as visitors coming from Quebec, New York State, Michigan and even further afield. And there is no end to the unique and engaging activities to discover while in the area - from historical tours to cycling routes and watersports, there's something for everyone. The Beer Around the Bay breweries will also continue to provide regular tours and tastings at their locations and are working closely with a growing number of local restaurants in Creemore, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach that are keen to showcase these local Beer on their menus and offer unique experiences such as locally sourced food and beer pairings."
"The amazing thing about Beer Around the Bay, is that visitors can choose from five fabulous breweries all in close proximity to one another," says Kathryn Stephenson, Tourism Manager for Simcoe County. "In addition to their growing line up of brewery events and tours, visitors also have a tremendous range of unique, small town shops, boutiques, restaurants and spas waiting to be discovered. And of course we live in an area where the great outdoors always beckons, with spectacular rolling hills and Georgian Bay all at your doorstep."
Already the Beer Around the Bay experience is attracting interest from tour operators, including The Beer Bus Company, which just launched a day-long Beer Around the Bay tour for selected Saturday and Sunday dates over the course of the summer. For details, visit our website.
