You may have been wondering what to do with your new Green Bin that has been delivered to eligible homes the County of Simcoe. Curbside waste collection services will be changing effective September 29th and the new program will include a Green Bin or organics, new blue box items and a one bag per week garbage limit.
The new Green Bin comes with 2 pieces…a mini bin that you keep in your kitchen and the larger bin that you keep where you store the rest of your garbage and recycling during the week before garbage day.
Put your mini bin on the counter or under your sink to keep it handy. Remove unacceptable packaging and wrap food scraps in newspapers or in certificated compostable bags before placing in your mini bin to reduce odours and pests, and to keep material from sticking in the bin.
Every few days, empty the contents of your mini bin into your Green Bin.
Store your Green Bin where you normally keep your garbage; in your garage, on your porch, or beside your house. Line your Green Bin with newspaper to reduce odours, pests and to keep material from sticking or freezing inside the bin OR use certified compostable bags.
Place your securely latched Green Bin beside your garbage at the curb by 7AM on your regular collection day. Organic material will be collected weekly on your regular collection day and in most cases, will be collected in the same truck but in a separate compartment from the garbage.
We have attached a sorting guide that you can print off for your reference that contains much more information about this program.
