Matthew Fields, from the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine team returned home from the 2016 National winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland with 3 Gold medals. Fields, a member of the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine team for some 8 years was one of 275 athletes representing Team Ontario, achieved gold in Giant Slalom, Super Giant Slalom and Slalom.
While the Special Olympics motto "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt" is a deep and serious message, the weekly message to the team from Head Coach, Terry Sears is "Fun, fun, fun". These two messages truly sum up the great environment in which these special athletes perform.
Currently, the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team is the largest program in Canada. Since 1997 when the World Games were held in Collingwood, Blue Mountain Resorts has sponsored this team of more than 30 athletes with the help of over 40 volunteers. The Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team is also supported by The Town of Collingwood and Skiis and Bikes.
